How to Negotiate a Lower Comcast Xfinity Bill
Last updated: Jan nine, 2022
Comcast, or "Xfinity" every bit they similar to call themselves these days, had thrown me for a bit of a loop lately. The alive-chat method had ever worked for me in getting discounts and promotions on Comcast services, but lately they've been sticklers.
I had written a very old post on Get Rich Slowly in the past that highlighted how to cut your Comcast neb – and gave the actual conversation transcript that cut my cost by 33%. That postal service is outdated, and few have had much luck with their live conversation team in recent years. Perhaps Comcast management read that post and decided to "toughen up" the live chat team?
Sure, I could get rid of cable completely. But, I love live sports and detect plenty educational value in other programming. And stacking streaming packages can cost just as much, if not more, than cable Television receiver these days. And so, I decided to become back to my one-time method of getting a Comcast discount – a good ole' fashion negotiation by phone.
Earlier I get into the negotiation and what the result was, I'll first highlight what my package and toll was (post two-year contract expiring):
- Digital Basic Cable with Hard disk DVR: $xc/month (full cost)
- Blast Cable Net (300 Mbps): $40/calendar month (discounted)
Total price: $130 per month (+ some other $25 or so for other related fees).
Note: Comcast frequently changes their speeds and parcel pricing, and so research what the current offerings are in your area, and substitute in the script. Information technology's the technique that works, not the pricing specifics.
How to Cut your Comcast Bill: Stride-by-Step Phone Script
I'll now walk y'all step-by-step how I was able to become that down to $90 per calendar month.
1. I picked up the phone and called Xfinity customer service number @: 1-800-934-6489 (1-800-XFINITY).
two. I state ("disconnect service") when prompted by the automatic vocalization prompts.
This should get you continued to an Xfinity loyalty or memory specialist, who have a little more power to offering discounts than other client service reps.
3. I lead my negotiation with the competition.
Comcast fears losing customers to AT&T U-Verse, who is offer up some slap-up discounted packages to new customers.
My discussion was well-nigh identical to this – and this Comcast script has reportedly worked well for hundreds of readers:
- Me: I'd similar to discontinue my service.
- Comcast Rep: OK, may I inquire why?
- Me: Because I demand to lower my bill and AT&T U-Poesy is now available in my neighborhood and has some great offers for me, including cobweb internet and cablevision for under $90.
- Comcast Rep: OK. Well AT&T doesn't offer as many HD channels, but I can look to see what kind of package nosotros may be able to offer you.
- Me: OK, I'll hear you out.
- Comcast Rep: OK, so nosotros have a new offer where y'all can give you the same toll as a new customer, with a 2-yr contract: $79.99 for Boom 250 Mbps and Starter cable with 140 channels. At that place is also a $x/month DVR fee.
- Me: Are you able to cut the DVR fee?
- Comcast Rep: Now you can cut the Xfinity Hard disk DVR and ready top box fee, but you lot need to stay nether 20 hours of programming recorded. If you don't want a DVR, there is a $7.fifty/calendar month set-pinnacle box fee per device (note: at present $eight.50 for the commencement device), simply you tin can get rid of that by using a Roku with the Xfinity Stream app, Amazon Fire, or certain smart TVs. You tin can also sign up for eco-nib and get a discount at that place. Subsequently all of that, your cost would exist $93 with a two-yr contract.
- Me: Are yous sure you don't take any cheaper packages?
- Comcast Rep: Yes.
- Me: OK, please make the switch.
- Comcast Rep: OK, should we add together on Xfinity Vocalization too?
- Me: No thanks (I accept Ooma digital phone service, and it's free).
Score another 1 versus Comcast's dreaded customer service.
4. I Saved 34%!
I was able to cut $47 (34%) off my cablevision/internet package, while getting the same channels and same internet speeds. Over two years, this will salve me $1,128, and so I will negotiate a new 2-yr contract again, or switch to U-Verse.
5. Stay Congenial
I want to point out that I was friendly, yet confident with the service rep. Information technology may sound cliche, but treat others as yous would desire to be treated and you lot volition get better results. Human activity like a jerk, and you'll strike out.
Note: I also previously got rid of the Comcast modem fee by purchasing my ain modem and router – saving me some other $xiv per month (yes, Comcast has recently raised their modem rental price). This is something y'all 100% must do too.
I would recommend replacing your Xfinity xFi modem by pairing a Motorola MB8611 modem and TP-Link AX1800 router if I were buying today (come across the articles linked to merely above for a full list of good modem/router options). This setup offers the same speeds and pays for itself in just over a year (saving $168 per year), and and so it's free for every bit long every bit they live!
I've also written more broadly on how to get rid of your ISP modem rental fee (if you're not a Comcast customer).
Cut your Comcast Xfinity Nib Word:
- What did your Comcast negotiation expect similar? How much did you save and how did yous get information technology?
- Comcast CSR'south: At present is your chance to tell all! How can customers get the best deals and how does Comcast fix these policies (retention specialist can negotiate/others cannot). Please share! (you lot'll remain bearding, of class)
